The Road to Memphis- review

The Road to Memphis is a very realistic and dramatic portrayal of what life was like for African Americans during the days after the Civil War and before Civil Rights. It centers on the South; and touches on the 'Separate but Equal ' movement. The book is told through the eyes of seventeen-year-old Cassie Logan, whose primary concern at the beginning of the book is finishing school. The story deepens when her friend, Moe Turner, retaliates against the sinister teasing of three white boys. The rest of the story traces Cassie and her friends as they must help Moe escape to Memphis before it's too late.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It's an easy read and has a little bit of everything: action, history, and romance. It's actually the third in a series, but it could be a standalone if you didn't want to read the other two.
